Facing the Music

A collaborative project with Rosie Bond undertaken in the aftermath of Storm Ciara and during Storm Dennis.

The undeniable correlation between depletion of natural resources and increased extreme weather events means we are starting to witness the affects of our actions. Natural disasters, unnaturally severe weather patterns, and the frequency of them, means we are constantly bombarded with reports of devastation and desolation. We have become desensitized to this information because it has become the norm. To combat this disengagement, this musical piece immortalises the recent disruptive Storm Dennis, to preserve the event, making sure that the urgency for action doesn’t blow over once the storm passes. Data taken from the MET Office was interpreted to correspond with musical notes that produces an appropriately ominous melody.
